Over 70 students from four North American Orthodox seminaries gathered at Saint Tikhon's Seminary and Monastery here September 22-23, 2006, for the biannual meeting of the Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement (OISM).

In line with OISM's goal of promoting fellowship between seminarians, the participants spent two days worshipping together in the monastery church, conducting business meetings, and enjoying friendly basketball games in the seminary gymnasium.

On the agenda of the business meeting was a discussion of plans to send 11 students from four seminaries to Alaska under OISM's auspices to visit Saint Herman's Seminary, Kodiak, AK; to make a pilgrimage to Spruce Island, where Saint Herman spent much of his life; and to visit other sites October 12-18. The participants also discussed the gathering of North American Orthodox hierarchs, slated to be hosted by the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas [SCOBA] in Chicago during the first week of October 2006. Representatives from each seminary also shared upcoming events and student life on their respective campuses.

In addition to representatives from Saint Tikhon's Seminary, students from Saint Vladimir's Seminary, Crestwood, NY; Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Brookline, MA; and Holy Trinity Seminary, Jordanville, NY participated in the gathering. Students from Saint Herman's Seminary, Kodiak, AK, were unable to make the transcontinental journey for the meeting, but they do plan to attend the 2007 spring gathering at a site yet to be announced.

OISM participation is open to all seminaries of SCOBA jurisdictions, as well as other associate member seminaries as approved by the general assembly.
